About Us

Software Concepts of Long Island was founded in 1986 by Edith Kappel and is located in Oceanside, NY. The goal of the company has been to provide software and management support to small and mid-sized companies utilizing the IBM mid-range family of computers. Software Concepts’ clients are primarily manufacturers and distributors in a variety of industries.

Software Concepts maintains its own current version IBM i in our office, with direct communications to all our clients, allowing all programming to be developed and fully tested offline. We maintain complete test libraries of all our clients’ data systems to allow for full life-cycle testing of any new programs or enhancements to current systems. All our clients systems have been custom written with close consultation with all levels of management and users. Our staff of experienced RPG programmers work under the close supervision of Edith Kappel. Our combined experience in all versions of RPG allow us to successfully modify and maintain legacy code, while writing new programs utilizing the latest programming languages and most current versions of the IBM i operating system. We pride ourselves on always completing projects within spec, in a timely manner and within budget.

Edith Kappel is a graduate of McGill University and has been designing computer applications for the IBM mid-range family of computers for over 30 years, from the S/34, S/36, AS/400, iSeries through the current IBM i.
